Dec 06, 2013 Then install the new HDD, plug in a 2GB flash drive reformatted to FAT32 with latest PS3 firmware, and update it. THEN, gradually transfer everything using the small 2 GB flash drive I. ![]() Hi guys, I'm trying to install a new 500GB Western Digital hard drive and have come to a dead end. I have followed all instructions and the problem I feel lies in the software update. When first powering up the PS3 with the new hdd, it tells me that the hdd needs to be formatted. The formatting takes place and all goes well. It then says 'No applicable update data was found. Connect a storage media that contains update data version of 3.41 or later.' Now prior to powering up the PS3, there is a USB memory stick with this software update already in one of the USB ports. From here the PS3 finds the file location from PS3 => UPDATE => PS3UPDAT.PUP. ![]() ![]() This is where the problem occurs, the system prepares for the install of this update gets to about 50% and then says 'No applicable update data was found.' Now, I have phoned the Playstation helpline and although nice & trying to be helpful, I was getting replies like: - It's the first Ive heard of it - it must be the hard drive - there must be something wrong with your PS3 - Maybe try and download the file from a friends computer with a different internet connection - We can not guarantee that external devices will be compatible Also I have tried two different hdds: 500GB WD Blue Scorpio & SAMSUNG 250GB and had the same problem occur. I have also found people in the US experiencing the same problems. So this seems to be a global problem Has anyone in Australia tried to install a new hdd with the software update 3.41 and had some success? Does anyone have a solution, because unfortunately the tech support guys can not help me. The link for the US Playstation forum is: Thanks guys. I just looked on the Playstation forum in the US and the problem seems to be fixed. Download Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Torrent for PC. Softworks in 2017, October 27, before this date movie is not available for download with uTorrent. Wolfenstein 2 free download. I rang Sony AUS and they confirmed that the problem has been resolved as well. I have just downloaded the 3.41with the new WD 500GB hdd and managed to get past the whole ' preparing to update' screen. After all of this I checked the system information and whoopee it actually says I have 412GB/ 465GB => so 412GB free. I just need to resore my old files with my external hdd and we should be good to go. This will take approximately 1.5 hrs. Anyway looks all good from now, everyone can relax and install the new hdd My only gripe with Sony is that on the website, the software update still says 3.41. It doesn't says anything like 'sorry guys we stuffed up & we should have listened to you from the start => here is the updated 3.41 or the new 3.41. It just looks like the old icon/screen you would click for the update. Anyway not to worry.all fixed now.thanks Sony for eventually listening to the public who actually buy your product. Hi There, Yes I am an Australian resident. Yes I was forced to update my PS3 to software update V3.41 two nights ago in order to continue playing online. After this, I then had to find the actual software update 3.41. It was not available on the Australian website until approximately 1.00am this morning. The US playstation website did have this software update available earlier. I just wish that I received my WD 500GB hard drive earlier than I did so I could use V3.40. Apparently that worked fine. And yes the US and AUS software updates downloads are different even though they look like they come from the same source destination. The version I used/tried was the Australian version of the software update. So in short my PS3 is definitely on V3.41. The actual download from the AUS website is definitely V3.41, but it must be corrupted in some way. To eliminate a bad sector on your USB storage device rename the ps3updat.pup file stored there to ps3updat.bad and then redownload the ps3updat.pup file. This leaves the previous file on the possibly bad sector of the hard drive and the new file in a different sector. I doubt this is the problem but I've been wrong before:) Two different drives would rather argue against it. Is there a disk still in the optical drive? Are there any other peripherals plugged in (eg playtv, dualshock controllers, usb hubs)? What happens if you put the old hard disk drive back? Hi Guys, Yes I have re-formatted the USB memory stick. When I download the software update, I download it to my PC and then copy and paste it to the USB stick. As for the peripherals plugged it, with only two USB ports available: 1 port is for the USB cable to connect to the wireless controller (i.e. Let the love begin song. Like the first time you ever set up the PS3 due to the new blank 500GB hdd) and the other port has the USB memory stick. I have also tried both ports with the USB stick. Sony tell me to send back the PS3 and they'll fix it. I can fix it myself by putting the original 120GB Toshiba hdd back in and everything still works. The problem is that with the PlayTV, I'm quickly running out of space, hence the reason I'm upgrading to the WD 500GB hdd. My old hard drive which is back in my PS3 at the moment has definitely got software update 3.41 and it downloaded successfully. If my original hdd was still on V3.40, I wouldn't be having this issue. You see when you do a mandatory update (i.e. Windows 7 serial code generator. To continue playing online), it also downloads this a bit of this software update into a specific storage area inside the PS3 in which you can not access. When you try to install another hard drive (i.e. For bigger storage), the PS3 insists that you load on the same software update so everything matches up. Hi, I am one of the people affected by the PS3 3.41 Firmware update. I haven't experienced any problems after updating my original 80GB HDD with 3.41 using the PS3 to download it, but when I try to install my new 500GB HDD, you also need to reinstall 3.41 via the PC download using a memory stick to transfer it over, this is when the problem starts. I have updated this way before without a hitch but now i get the error message 'No applicable update data was found'. There is nothing wrong with my PS3, it still works with the original hard drive, and nothing wrong with my PC or memory stick, both have been thoroughly checked. There is no human error, i've followed the instructions carefully and methodically. My new hard drive has been tested and works perfectly fine, the PS3 recognises it, formatted it, but just won't transfer the full 3.41 update onto it. Hmm okay, so try this: Update your PS3 again only this time use the PC method instead of the online method. That way you know that the firmware you are trying to load when you upgrade the hard drive is the same as the one that was loaded before. 'Hmm okay, so try this: Update your PS3 again only this time use the PC method instead of the online method. That way you know that the firmware you are trying to load when you upgrade the hard drive is the same as the one that was loaded before.' Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not game to try this, since my PS3 actually works at the moment with my old hdd. A few people on the US forum tried this method and now their PS3 does not work. Sony justs needs to own up, pull their finger out and fix the bloody software update instead of blaming every other peripheral under the sun. However before I posted that advice I upgraded my ps3 again using the downloaded firmware on a usb hard drive just to check it was possible and it did it just fine. It says something along the lines of 'the same version of the firmware has been found. Do you want to install it again?' Not having a photographic memory I don't recall exactly what it said. I tend to think the firmware itself is fine. Of course it's totally up to you: I wouldn't want to risk my PS3 either under those circumstances. On your second point: Nobody in a forum can help you if you believe that Sony need to fix their firmware. Forums just get users complaining to each other. Call Sony and be persistent (but pleasant) if you want any real action taken. Same problem, PS3 gimped now. Been reading up on this alot. Seems the 40mb update patch from 3.40 to 3.41 is fine, as had done this prev on HDD without problem, but the full 3.41 patch is corrupt or gimped in its programming. Everyone that is having the problem like myself is having it with the HDD upgrade and full 3.41 file that is needed. And yes my usb pen drives are fine, used them multiple times for gamesaves, movies, music, ps3updates. All folders are right, its fat32 blah blah. Beleive me i know what im doing. Sony fix the f**kn 3.41 full file will ya so i can continue with the format and upgrade of my new hdd. And you better pray that since its gimped on this 'No applicable update was found' screen and no way to turn off safely mid process that my HDD better not be bloody corrupted because u WILL get a lawsuit. Wrote: hey everyone, check this out I have tried this and it works, the only difference is i did it with 2 usb hdd enclosures instead of opening up my computer.
